The Reaching Out programme has been awarded funding for another year from Arts Council England and the Department for Education to continue supporting schools in North Hampshire to access local heritage and culture.

As well as providing funding for museum partners to develop and deliver curriculum-linked learning programmes for target schools in the North Hampshire Area, this latest phase will support the development of sustainable learning resources across the partner sites.

Over-arching aims of the project are to:

  • Reach out to schools in North Hampshire that have above average indices of deprivation and/or that show a lack of engagement with museums as part of their classroom teaching in order to forge new, sustainable relationships between these schools and their local museums to enhance pupils' education
  • Bring together a group of partner museums to deliver this project and provide a diverse range of opportunities with which schools can engage, as well as strengthen existing museum networks and their future resilience

In previous years the project has supported the development of EYFS and SEND learning provision across the partner sites.

In 2017-18 the Reaching Out! partners worked with Neck of the Woods video production to document the variety of learning provision delivered in 2017-18. The film above shows several HCT sites and includes interviews with teachers, facilitators and pupils.
