‘Beneath our Feet’ – Winklebury Junior School

Year Four Pupils explored the stories of their local area’s past and present, through mapping and exploring objects to create a sense of place. The school buildings are near to an Iron Age Hill Fort, which is about to be turned into a housing estate. The project began with a field trip that was designed to connect art, history and geography and bring them alive through hands-on experiences and the contemplation of the past beneath our feet. This exhibition illustrates their journey of discovery.

‘Printing like William Morris’ – St Bede’s Catholic Primary School

Vanessa Rolf and a team of Arts Society volunteers helped year four pupils create prints on fabric bags using the designs they developed from natural forms.

Both these projects were provided by textile Artist Vanessa Rolf https://vanessarolf.co.uk/story  and funded by The Arts Society.

Art @ The Station

Art @ the Station was conceived by The Arts Society and has developed to comprise a rolling series of Art from young artists in the public space of the station’s waiting rooms and subways, giving the students a rare chance to have their work displayed within a ‘real exhibition’, publicly. The work is sourced from local schools, colleges and community projects and is changed regularly, (x4 per annum). So far, we have displayed work from BCOT, QMC, Everest Community Academy, Dove House Academy the Vyne Community School.

Sewing Cushions – Winklebury Junior School

A team of our members enjoyed helping year five children learn to sew by helping them to create their own cushion.

Explore the Arts with us:

The Arts Society leads a global network of local community groups which bring people together through a shared curiosity for the arts. In Basingstoke we play our part in contributing to and preserving our artistic heritage through volunteering and grants.  We have invested particularly in supporting arts’ projects that involve young people; they are our future.

Be informed and entertained in a friendly atmosphere, through a wide-ranging programme of illustrated lectures. We are a like-minded friendly group of people of all ages and backgrounds with a common interest in the arts in all their forms. Our carefully chosen programme is diverse in its composition and is designed to challenge thinking, increase both knowledge and understanding, whilst developing a fuller appreciation of the arts in whatever form it may take. The Arts Society Basingstoke
