BAOS have come a long way since their first production, Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, in February 1922.  This was performed at Thornycroft’s Canteen in Worting Road.  The company was renamed the Basingstoke and Thornycroft Amateur Operatic Society in 1946 and moved their productions to the Haymarket Theatre in 1951.

In 1974 we became known under our current name Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society.  Since 2000, the company has continued to encourage membership with musicals such as Hairspray, Wind in the Willows and Kinky Boots.  This year sees the 10th Anniversary of the BAOS Junior Group, Limelight, and we are delighted to be given the opportunity to share our history with the Basingstoke community.

The exhibition will include a display of photographs, programmes and costumes, along with audio and video footage from previous production.
