Celebrating the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo at Aldershot Military Museum

Just over two hundred years ago, the Battle of Waterloo represented a turning point in European history, bringing to an end the reign of the Napoleon Bonaparte, 1st Emperor of France. Following this agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna and the adoption of the Congress System resulted in lasting peace in Europe.

The centrepieces of the exhibition are a 16’ x 8’ 1/72 scale battlefield diorama, portraying the battle at the time of the first great infantry assault on the centre of Wellington’s line, and a second 8’ x 4’ diorama depicting the action in Plancenoit as the Prussians attacked Napoleon’s right flank. Historical accounts of the important events leading up to and following the battle will be displayed as well as copies of paintings made of important stages of the battle.

The dioramas will feature models of the key fortified farmhouses and approximately 5,000 military figures. (There were just short of 200,000 participants at the battle on 18th June 1815, so each individual figure represents about 40 of the combatants!)

There will be living history displays provided by members of the 2nd Queen’s Regiment of Foot and  the 45eme Regiment d’Infanterie de Ligne reenactment groups.

Normal museum entry fees will apply. There is no additional entry fee to the Waterloo exhibition. However, supplementary voluntary contributions may be made to the museum funds if desired.
