In the 1100s the De Port family built a Norman Castle at Basing, and the story of Basing House began!
This October we are going back to the beginning to celebrate our Norman roots.
We are delighted to welcome Historia Normannis, who will help us tell the tale of castle life and bring the little known tales of Norman Basing to life.
Explore the site and indulge in all things Norman, including the dressing of the knight, a weapons demonstration, trade skills and crafts, Norman cooking and take your seat at the catwalk for the Norman fashion show!
Try out the Norman favourite drink mead from local company Chalice Mead and treat yourself to tea and cake in The Bothy Tea Room.
Train in our Knight School*, get crafty in the Cow Byre with our family activities and if you want to learn more then join one of our guided tours.
To help keep everyone safe, we’ve made some changes at Basing House. We have introduced a number of measures in line with government guidelines to help manage our visitor numbers and ensure we maintain social distancing to protect you, our staff and volunteers. You can find out what we are doing at Basing House here https://www.hampshireculture.org.uk/basing-house. More information is available in our FAQs.
