Cultural Networking Session & Launch of Sounding Peace
Join your fellow local artists, makers, heritage volunteers and professionals for an opportunity to find out about the process of creating a groundbreaking sound installation at the Aldershot Military Museum: Sounding Peace. There will be a chance to ask questions, network and try the installation for yourself.
This innovative artwork by Dr Joseph Young takes inspiration from Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes—but here, the dome exists virtually, brought to life through the everyday technology of your mobile phone. At its heart are the recorded voices of military veterans (as voiced by AI) reflecting on peacekeeping. Visitors are encouraged to move through the installation, experiencing and interacting with these powerful narratives from different perspectives.
Dr Joseph Young is an established artist and researcher in sound and performance, an Irish Research Council scholar, and a leading specialist in immersive audio and cultural heritage. His work combines cutting-edge audio technology with deep cultural engagement, making this an event of real interest to artists, heritage groups, volunteers, and cultural venues across the borough.
The afternoon will also include refreshments, access to the museum, and of course the chance to explore Sounding Peace for yourself. Visitors are asked to bring their mobile phone and a pair of headphones with them: there will also be an accessible listening area within the Museum for those who do not have a phone.
