Spend the day making a pair of fingerless gloves using recycled fabrics and dyed merino fibres - a wet felting method called ‘Nuno Felting’. Using the seamless method (no sewing involved), you will incorporate fabrics with your fibres to produce your very own unique pair of gloves. Sarah will guide you each step of the way using this fascinating technique.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and the more advanced felter. All materials will be provided.
About the Teacher:
Sarah is a contemporary feltmaker using ancient techniques to showcase the beauty and diversity of our British wool. Working with local and sustainable fleeces where possible, Sarah creates large scale wall hangings, installations and artworks, together with small items for the home. Felt is an ancient art for modern day living.
"I have been spinning weaving and dyeing my own fleeces for over thirty years. Having graduated in Agriculture I set up and ran my company, producing yarn and knitting kits from my own flock of several hundred Rare Breeds of sheep. Feltmaking was a progression after having to disperse the flock when my father sold his smallholding.
I have almost thirty years of experience in teaching feltmaking from school children, adults with learning difficulties to community projects. I give talks and workshops across the UK and online."
Information for attendees:
Please bring a notepad and pen (a camera is also useful, but not necessary, for visual reference). Although we will be using soapy water you should not get ‘wet’ or need to wear old clothes.
