We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase alternative portraiture created through The ICE project and Horizon 20:20 More and Better programme. Working with young people through two social impact programmes delivered by Hampshire Cultural Trust and in response to the BP Portrait Award on display at The Gallery, Winchester Discovery Centre.
This varied, creative collection of portraits, self-portrait and self-expression is a selection of artwork produced by young people from seven Education Centres across Hampshire.
This exhibition represents a wide ranges of skills, techniques and artforms which young people have used to explore portrait making using materials other than paint. This response to portraiture captures a combination of identity, expression and a showcase of different skills mastered through working with different artists.
Horizon 20:20 is a four year arts-intervention programme to promote engagement in the arts for young people in non-mainstream education. Professional arts practitioners run regular sessions in seven Education Centres in Hampshire using arts and culture as a tool to increase confidence, to improve motivation to learn, to inspire positive behaviour and to give young people the chance develop empathy and teamwork, forming positive relationships with peers and adults.
