A journey through clay: demonstrations, life reflections and poetry. An afternoon with emerging fine artist Lisa Stevenson and Olivier Award-winning actress Abigail McKern.
Free event - please reserve via the link below or visit the gallery to book.
Ceramics reflects a turning point in mid-life when Lisa decided to change direction and follow her dream. Like many people, she found that lockdown created a time to pause and reflect which led to a short course in throwing in 2021 and the end of her corporate career.
In today’s talk Lisa will share with you her interpretation of 'a journey through clay' - its stages, teachings and how its development reflects our own as people.
She will also create with you some moments of personal reflection drawing upon her own personal experiences of grief and life events to show how we can also be shaped, and choose to change, adapt and thrive as she works with clay at each stage.
Joining Lisa will be Abigail McKern, Olivier award winning actress who will bring these reflections to life with some original poetry recitals that have been created by Lisa and capture the residual moments of the creative clay experiences that she has had.
Part of our Jane Austen 250th Celebrations, this event shares the power of storytelling through different media.
Accessibility: The event will take place in the downstairs exhibition space of the Allen Gallery, a small and intimate setting for ceramic art in the centre of Alton. The space is fully wheelchair accessible from the street. We invite you to enjoy the garden and permanent ceramics collection during your visit.
