Merlyn Driver

Merlyn Driver is a musician, writer, cultural entrepreneur and educator focusing mainly on traditional and international musics, and on connections between music and nature.

Merlyn released his debut EP, This Is the Corner of a Larger Field in 2017. Produced by BBC Folk Awards winner Ben Walker (Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, Oh Sister, Jinnwoo) and Colin Bass (9Bach, Etran Finatawa, Krar Collective), it was lauded by BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 2 and across the UK folk scene.

Upon completion of his Masters in ethnomusicology at SOAS - University of London in 2016, Merlyn took over as organiser of the SOAS Concert Series. For the past three years he's also worked for the travelling ‘world music’ concert series, Making Tracks, contributing to the organisation of nine successful UK tours featuring international artists from four continents.

Since visiting the Scandinavian Arctic for the first time in 2009, Merlyn has been helping to bring joik - the vocal tradition of the Sámi people - to a wider UK audience. More recently, Merlyn has become interested in the use of buzzing sounds within different musical traditions.

Merlyn is a regular contributor to Songlines Magazine and a guest presenter for the Nest Collective Hour on Resonance 104.4 FM.  He is currently working on a new project that unites music with global social and environmental causes.
