Brighter Futures Programme Summer 2025
Needle Felting for Wellbeing – a 10.5-hour course set over 3 weeks where you can focus upon improving your positive mental wellbeing by learning to create 3 little 3D beach huts to place in your own setting.
Your tutor, Carol Scicluna a local needle felt artist, will show you step by step the techniques of sculping sheep wool fibres into a solid block structure and will then share all of the tips and tricks you need to add the detailed embellishments. She will be on hand to help you all the way!
Needle felting uses special barbed needles that catch the wool fibres as they are repeatedly poked to form 3d wool sculptures. The process can be very therapeutic and relaxing. During the 3 weeks, as well as learning to needle felt, you may find yourself making friendly connections with other Learners as you chat, enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee whilst working at your own pace, expertly guided by Carol.
You might decide to apply this new craft just for your own enjoyment, share it with others, start making or selling gifts or explore 2D needle felting techniques to create pictures. Either way, being able to work with natural fibres, bright colours and feeling a sense of accomplishment are benefits that other learners have said contribute to their wellbeing.
No previous experience necessary, as both complete beginners and those with some needle felting experience will all be welcome. All materials and instruction guides will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes as we will be sitting for long periods, although you will be encouraged to get into the habit of movement and stretches while you work.
You may be surprised what you can achieve to develop your creativity in this friendly relaxed class.
*Please note that this course will be taking place on the top floor of the museum, which must be accessed via stairs. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
