The Red House Open is an established, annual exhibition open to all artists, in all mediums, both professional and amateur.

This year's exhibition will take place 18 July to 6 September 2026.

Submissions are now open and close at 23.30 on 24 June 2026

Artists can submit up to 3 artworks. The cost to enter each artwork is £7.

Artworks will be selected by an independent panel.

You must be 18+ to enter.

How to submit by email:

Only email your artwork to us after you've received your Order Number for the purchase of your entry.

Attach a high resolution photograph of each artwork as a jpeg to your email. If you've paid for more than one submission, but the files are too large and it is not possible to send multiple attachments, send a seperate email for each submission. You may send more than one photograph of 3D and sculptural artwork

Only submit to the Open 2026, if you can commit to delivering the artwork in person on Wednesday 15 July, 9am - 12pm.

Be prepared to upload a clear, high resolution jpeg photograph or image of your artwork. Before you upload your photo, please make sure you name the image file correctly -

Red House Museum Open Art Competition – Terms and Conditions

By entering the Red House Museum Open Art Competition you are deemed to have read and accepted all aspects of the rules described here. Hampshire Cultural Trust is recognised as the Organiser and Red House Museum as the Venue.

 

1. Eligibility
  1. All applicants must be 18 or over.
  2. All artwork submitted must be solely created by the artist registered for this award.
  3. All artwork must have been completed within the last three years and must not have been previously displayed at the Red House Museum.
  4. Hampshire Cultural Trust only accepts artwork that has not been sold previously at the time of entry.
  5. Entrants must ensure that they hold the appropriate commercial rights if represented by a publisher so that there is no conflict of interest.

2. Entry and Fees
  1. Submission fee: £7 per entry. A maximum of 3 entries per person.
  2. All entry submissions are final and entry fees are non-refundable. No compensation can be requested in any of the above cases.
  3. Hampshire Cultural Trust is non-profit making. Entry fees go directly towards the running costs, administration, and preparation of the Open Exhibition.

3. Accepted Media
  1. Accepted media includes:
    • Painting (oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache)
    • Drawing (pencil, charcoal, ink, pastel)
    • Printmaking (etching, lithography, screen printing)
    • Digital painting or illustration
    • Photography
    • Video art
    • Animation
    • Sculpture (wood, metal, clay, found objects)
    • Textile and fibre art
    • Collage
  2. If submitting video or digital work:
  • You must provide adequate and PAT tested hardware and equipment.
  • A Process Statement may be requested.
  • All electrical equipment must comply with UK safety standards, and the Venue reserves the right to refuse installation if it does not meet safety requirements.

4. Artwork Requirements and Specifications
  1. Framed works must not exceed 2.4m along the longest dimension.
  2. 3D works to be displayed in our cases must not exceed 50cm in height.
  3. Paintings must be completely dry at the time of delivery.
  4. 2D artworks must be framed and capable of having mirror plates attached. Mirror plates should be centrally positioned where possible.
  5. Any work requiring specialist fixings must be declared at the point of submission.
  6. Artwork delivered must accurately reflect the submitted image. The Venue reserves the right to reject work that significantly differs from the original submission.

5. Submission Information
  1. Applicants are responsible for providing correct personal information so that organisers can contact them.
  2. Full details of each piece of work must be supplied, including:
  • Artist name
  • Title of work
  • Dimensions
  • Medium
  • Sale price
  1. Images must be:
  • High resolution
  • Free from glare
  • For 3D work, taken against a plain background
  1. Additional images must be provided where necessary to show 3D work properly.
  2. Artists are responsible for correctly pricing, sizing, and describing their work. Any changes must be submitted in writing to the Venue.

6. Content, Suitability and Safety
  1. The Organiser reserves the right to reject or remove any work that is deemed offensive, inappropriate, unsafe, or not in keeping with the values of the Venue.
  2. Artwork must not contain hazardous, perishable, or dangerous materials. Any such materials must be declared at submission and approved by the Venue.

7. Selection and Judging
  1. All artwork will be inspected and approved by the Manager before and following installation.
  2. The judge’s decision is final.
  3. The Venue will not enter into discussion regarding individual entries or artists.
  4. Shortlisted artists will be contacted directly.
  5. If the Venue is unable to contact a shortlisted artist or winner, the position or prize may lapse and be reallocated.

8. Exhibition and Display
  1. The final decision regarding display and placement of all artworks rests with the Venue.
  2. Artists are responsible for delivery and collection of their work.
  3. Artists are responsible for insurance whilst in transit and for the duration the work is at the Venue.
  4. Each artwork must have two labels:
  • One attached to the back
  • One tie-on label visible from the front
  • Both must include artist name, title, and price
  1. All packing materials must be removed after delivery.
  2. Unsold work must be packed by the artist on collection.
  3. Once selected for exhibition, artworks may not be withdrawn without prior agreement from the Venue.

9. Sales and Commission
  1. Any works sold during the exhibition will incur a 20% commission (plus VAT).
  2. Exhibitors must complete and sign a Sales on Commission Agreement acknowledging Hampshire Cultural Trust as the sales agent.
  3. Payment for sold work will be made within a reasonable period following the close of the exhibition and receipt of funds.
  4. If a sale cannot be completed (e.g. buyer withdrawal or non-payment), the work will remain available and the Organiser holds no liability.

10. Copyright and Publicity
  1. Artists retain full copyright of their work.
  2. Winners permit external communication of their work, including publicity, press, website, social media, and printed or digital materials.
  3. The Organiser may also use images of submitted work (including non-winning entries) for promotional and archival purposes, with appropriate credit to the artist.
  4. The names of winners will be published in publicity materials.

11. Liability and Insurance
  1. While care is taken in handling and displaying artwork, Hampshire Cultural Trust accepts no liability for damage during transit, storage, or exhibition.
  2. Artists must ensure their work is adequately insured at all times.

12. Collection and Uncollected Work
  1. If artwork is not collected on the specified date without prior arrangement, the Venue reserves the right to dispose of uncollected work due to limited storage space.

13. Prizes and Sponsorship
  1. Hampshire Cultural Trust depends on sponsors and affiliated partners for prize provision.
  2. The Organiser is not responsible if partners fail to fulfil prize commitments.
  3. No cash alternative is available.

14. Data Protection
  1. Personal data provided by entrants will be used solely for the administration of the competition and will not be shared with third parties without consent, except where necessary for the operation of the competition.

15. General Terms
  1. Hampshire Cultural Trust reserves the right to cancel the competition or amend these rules where necessary.
  2. The Organiser shall not be liable for failure to fulfil its obligations due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to venue closure, extreme weather, or public health restrictions.
  3. In all matters relating to the competition, the decision of Hampshire Cultural Trust is final.
  4. These terms are governed by English law and any disputes will be subject to the courts of the United Kingdom.
