Group artwork by students at The Key Education Centre, Gosport.
As part of the Open Art 2020 exhibition we are delighted to showcase a collection of artworks produced by young people from The Key Education Centre on the theme of Sculpture Around You.
Working directly with professional sculptor for five arts intervention days, the young people mastered different skills and processes inspired by publicly owned sculpture, locally and held within the Hampshire Cultural Trust collections. Inspiration was taken natural forms and contemporary sculpture such as Kate MccGwire’s Ascidia (after Haeckel), with a focus on form, shape, and space. This work expresses their own personal response and showcases a range of sculptural skills.
The Sculpture Around You project is supported by Art UK Sculpture. The wider Horizon 20:20 programme is funded by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Horizon 20:20 is a four year arts-intervention programme to promote engagement in the arts for young people in non-mainstream education. Professional arts practitioners run regular sessions in seven Education Centres in Hampshire using arts and culture as a tool to increase confidence, to improve motivation to learn, to inspire positive behaviour and to give young people the chance develop empathy and teamwork, forming positive relationships with peers and adults. This programme has been funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation
