The Southern Companion

The Southern Companion have spent much of the last few years touring the UK, Europe and the USA, supporting soulful songstress Rumer and 60's legend Lulu, as well as playing to festival audiences up and down the country. Individually they have played with everyone from Lulu and Tom Jones to Mel C and Take That, and their third album debuted at Number One on the iTunes Country chart on 25 January.

Fronted by singer/songwriter Darren Hodson, the band recorded an Under The Apple Tree session for broadcasting legend Whispering Bob Harris in 2016 and soon after performed at the Country 2 Country (C2C) festival at the O2 in London which launched them firmly onto the UK Country music scene. Their second album 1000 Days of Rain went on to win them Album of the Year and Horizon Act at the 2016 British Country Music Awards, while 2017 saw them scoop the Band of the Year award.

2019 brought Live shows for The AMA-UK, National air play on BBC Radio 2 from Bob Harris, as well as a featured song in the smash hit movie Wild Rose feat. Jessie Buckley & Julie Walters.  It also saw the release of their third album Shine A Little Light which has already won Album of the Year at the UK Country Radio awards and has also been nominated for Album of The Year at the British CMA.

Now they return to New Milton with their UK twist on Americana and Country!

“Shine A Little Light is their third album and really should see them move into the big leagues of homegrown Americana” Folking.com

“An intricate, deeply personal album that plays across the whole Americana spectrum. Imagine Del Amitri jamming with McCartney, Clapton and Gram Parsons and you’d be somewhere close to where Shine A Little Light will take you” Lyric Magazine

“Wonderful band” Bob Harris – BBCR2

“A Mid-Atlantic Sonic Whirlpool where the US & UK currents meet” AmericanaUK

“In a different place and time Darren’s voice would have made him a 90’s “modern rock” god and that’s a wonderful thing as far as I’m concerned” Baylen Leonard / Bluegrass Situation

“Shine A Little Light, a monstrous force of accomplished songwriting and emotion” B Sides & Badlands
