ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME:

Come and join us on the Stepping Stones programme for a chance to explore your creativity by working and playing with clay. It will be a wonderful opportunity to relax and learn new skills, while building a collection of ceramic pieces in a small friendly group. This programme is led by artist Jill Maguire. 

The course is taking place at the Allen Gallery, which is well known for its wonderful collection of ceramics from around the world. We will have the opportunity to look at the pottery and tile exhibitions for inspiration as we enjoy making our own collections. 

Throughout the course we will learn new skills to include:

. Slab building

. Coiling

. Decorating with underglazes

. Simple sculpting

The sessions will be flexible so that you can have fun exploring your own creativity with guidance. It is also wonderful opportunity to new make friends in a relaxed and welcoming space.

 

ABOUT STEPPING STONES:

The Stepping Stones programme promotes positive mental health and provides regular opportunities for young people to use creativity to build emotional resilience. The high quality programmes are delivered by professional artists and held in Hampshire Cultural Trust venues. Joining the programme will boost confidence, communication and social skills. It is fun and a great way to meet other young people in a safe and supportive space.

 

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

  • To be eligible for this programme participants need to be aged 10 – 16 years.
  • This programme is free of charge and all materials will be provided.
  • Once you have booked a space, we will email you an enrolment form. Please keep an eye on your emails. 

 

LOCATION, DATES AND DETAILS: 

Location: The Allen Gallery, Alton *please note, later sessions within the programme may need to take place at our other venue, The Curtis Museum, Alton (TBC)

Dates: Saturdays 1 November - 6 December 2025, 10:30am - 12:30pm

Duration: 6 weeks

Accessibility: Please note, this course will be taking place on the upper floor of the museum, which must be accessed via stairs. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please contact the venue if you would like any additional information. 

  • 8 ceramic mugs, handpainted in a variety of colours and designs
  • 9 handmade ceramic tiles, painted with a variety of designs
  • Handmade ceramic spoons, handpainted with a variety of designs and colours
  • Ceramic handmade plates, with food designs made out of clay
