Stitching the Blues is an interactive workshop series by artist Hilary Kimber to accompany her exciting exhibition of contemporary hand-stiched needlework on display in the Allen Gallery cafe from 8 November to 31 December.
Aimed at everyone from the beginner to the more advanced embroiderer, the workshops will be as energetic and inspiring as Hilary's wealth of work currently on display! At the end you will have a handmade item that can be mounted at an additional free session and given as a gift. Embroidery has numerous applications in fashion and textiles - a great skill for all generations to learn!
Workshop 1: Line and Shape
Using the gallery’s apothecary jars for inspiration, we will investigate different weights of outline stitches and the use of seed stitch for shading to give form and depth. For beginners or those with little embroidery experience.
Workshop 2: Florals on Print
A floral pattern on one of the gallery’s collection of cups and saucers will be interpreted in stitch using a pre-printed individual design on fabric as a starting point. For those with prior needlework experience, or who would like to build on skills learned in workshop 1.
Workshop 3: Mounting Work & Meet the Artist. FREE!
Free, drop-in session with a chance to chat to Hilary about her embroidery techniques. She will also be giving advice on mounting, hanging and presenting embroidery or textiles work. Tea will be available! Reserve online or drop in on the day, everyone welcome!
Please contact allen.gallery@hampshireculturaltrust.org.uk if you have any specific access requirements or general enquiries about the workshops.
