This summer, the Sainsbury Gallery will be transformed into a vibrant space for creativity and experimentation. 'The Time Studio: Connecting Artists & Community' is a brand-new style of exhibition for the Willis Museum, supported by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. We’re inviting local residents to explore their creative skills and become exhibiting artists.
This event will feature six Hampshire-based artists, each commissioned to lead workshops in diverse art mediums, from printmaking to clay coiling, responding to the theme of 'Time' in honour of George Willis, the museum's founder and a passionate clockmaker. These free specialist workshops will run in the museum from July to September 2024 and are designed for everyone, regardless of prior art experience. The gallery will host six sections showcasing workshop-created art and each week new elements will be added, allowing the exhibition to evolve.
The artists will also have on-site residencies to develop their craft and offer hands on opportunities for visitors to enjoy. For those unable to attend in person, take-home workshop packs and video tutorials will be available, with participants still encouraged to submit their artworks for display. There will be a party to celebrate and admire our new exhibiting artists at the end of the exhibition.
To book onto the workshops please do so via the Willis Museum page.
