• The Arc aerial shot of new patio

Visitors to The Arc in Winchester are now being welcomed by a vibrant new outdoor mural, transforming the venue’s patio into a lively and inviting public space.

Designed by Peagreen Studio, the bold artwork brings colour, movement and creativity to the entrance of the cultural venue. The design complements the existing artwork outside neighbouring Theatre Royal Winchester, helping to create a brighter and more cohesive cultural quarter in the heart of the city.

The newly refreshed patio offers a welcoming space for visitors to pause and enjoy the surroundings, whether relaxing with lunch, meeting friends or stopping for a pre-show drink before a performance next door.

The mural was installed by Fun and Active Playgrounds Ltd, who worked closely with the design team to bring the artwork to life.

Alongside the new mural, the patio has also been enhanced with a bright parasol, new outdoor furniture, screens and planted areas. Members of Winchester Go LD helped bring the planters to life, adding greenery and seasonal planting to the space, and will continue to care for them.

Chris Baird, General Manager at The Arc, said:

“The café and outdoor area redesign mark an exciting new chapter for The Arc, and we’re looking forward to welcoming both new and returning visitors.

We wanted the space to feel like an extension of the creativity that happens inside the building – somewhere vibrant, welcoming and full of life. The colourful floor graphic brings energy and playfulness to the patio, reflecting the variety of events, exhibitions and activities taking place across The Arc every day.

The revitalised area offers everyone a place to relax and be inspired, whether they’re here for a performance, a workshop, or simply visiting the library.”

This improvement project has been supported by funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, awarded by Winchester City Council.

The Arc is operated by Hampshire Cultural Trust and is home to a year-round programme of exhibitions, performances, film screenings, events and creative activities for the community.

The new patio artwork provides another reason to stop by, whether visiting the venue, exploring Winchester’s cultural district or simply enjoying the revitalised outdoor space.
