‘My Gosport’, a Heritage Lottery Fund Young Roots project, worked with young people in Gosport to explore and creatively reinterpret the history of their local area.
The project, which took place from May – November 2018, provided students from St Vincent’s College and Bridgemary School the chance to work alongside local historians to develop skills in historical research and oral history. The young people responded with their own creative interpretation of what they had discovered. They also worked with local historians, and local artists to create a variety of creative outputs and celebration events.
The young people worked with artists from SPUD,a world leader in delivering collaborations involving art, architecture and education. Their work included a 3D sculpture installed along Gosport High Street and a photographic exhibition which went on display at the Gosport Discovery Centre and SEARCH.
The project provided the young people with the opportunity to share their work with the local community and it created a real sense of pride of place for all those involved.
