Are you looking to gain valuable experience to support you in your future career?

This public-facing opportunity is key to caring for Hampshire’s heritage and making it accessible through your community museum. As a Weekend Welcome Volunteer you’ll provide our visitors with a warm welcome and ensure they have a great experience. You’ll also help our Museum Manager with the opening and upkeep of the site.

Who we are

Westbury Manor Museum is managed by Hampshire Cultural Trust, who are an independent charity. The museum explores the borough’s origins as a Stone Age settlement, the infamous workhouse scandal of 1837, its long traditions of brickmaking and strawberry production and much more. There is also a beautiful garden and busy café.

You’ll get involved in

  • Welcoming and interacting with the public to ensure all visitors have the best possible experience
  • Assist with retail and café sales, this would include cash handling, food handling and record keeping
  • Touring the galleries and assisting visitors, whilst helping to maintain security for the museum
  • Assist staff with the setting up and the maintenance of events, exhibitions and activities
  • Support the implementation of evacuation procedures and follow guidance to help maintain safety and security on site
  • Assist with cleaning, preparation and the presentation of the museum, gallery and garden

A bit about you

You’ll bring a willingness to communicate with our visitors and enhance their experience through good customer service. You’ll enjoy being part of a small team and willing to help us maintain a safe environment.  You may be handling cash and sales so you should have a good attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

What we can offer you

We will provide appropriate information, coaching, training and ongoing supervision to support you.  You’ll be part of a friendly and dedicated team with the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and pass on your own experience. You’ll engage in an activity that others consider important and build career-related skills and abilities. Most importantly, you’ll be playing a part in keeping this very special site open.

More information and contact

Volunteer slots available are on Saturday and Sunday with the following approximate timings: 09:15 – 13:30 and 13:30 – 17:00. We are very flexible about when and how often you volunteer as well as the types of activities you’d like to give your time to.
