Penny Peters - Quirky Quilts

Penny Peters’ exhibition, ‘Quirky Quilts’, will be on display in the gallery cafe from 2 March to 30 March. It will include a range of hand stitched wall hangings and cushions, as well as some smaller items such as bags for sale.

About the Artist:

Penny started quilting in the 1980’s after attending Guildford School of Art where she studied printed textiles. Using her experience in art and design she had developed her own twist on traditional quilting. She is a member of the National Quilters Guild and also of their Region Three which covers Hampshire, Wiltshire, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. She has attended many courses and workshops and goes to an annual quilting retreat in Devon. This is a great opportunity to get together with other quilters to stitch and socialise.

Penny has made quilts for the Project Linus charity who collect quilts for children and teenagers in need. She also volunteers as a stitcher at Alton Repair Café.

Penny moved to the Alton area with her partner in October 2021.  She has joined a quilt group ‘Log Cabin Quilters’ which meets in Hartley Wintney twice monthly. She is still a member of a home group in Guildford where she lived for 37 years.

Penny says “following my exhibition at the Allen Gallery in 2022, I am pleased to be showing some of my cushions, wall hangings and quilted clothing. Some of the designs use folded fabric to give a 3D impression. It may surprise people to know how versatile patchwork and quilting can be.”
