Visitors to Gosport Museum and Art Gallery have been wowed this summer, by a brand-new sand sculpture exhibition, Sandstories, a captivating celebration of Gosport in sand, running until 16 September.

This extraordinary display of creativity by internationally renowned master sand artists, Paul and Remy Hoggard, is a stunning sculptural celebration of Gosport, with the artists creating a breathtaking landscape through sand artistry. Meticulous sculpting and intricate detailing enable Paul and Remy Hoggard to masterfully breathe life into grains of sand, with this new exhibition conjuring up a unique 3D scene celebrating Gosport’s beautiful peninsula location, from its skyline to the bottom of the sea. There are also sand pits accompanying the exhibition so visitors can have a go at sand sculpting for themselves.

There is even a sculpture by the entrance of Gosport Museum and Art Gallery of the beloved local Gosport cat, Tilly. This was created after Paul and Remy met Tilly on their initial visit to create Sandstories and falling in love with her familiarity and popularity within the town.

Alongside the exhibition, Gosport Museum and Art Gallery, operated by Hampshire Cultural Trust, are running ocean themed activities for children and families during the school holidays. Young visitors on Thursday 17 and Friday 25 August can join in with a day of arty fun and sand, be inspired by the giant sand sculpture and get creative with Sand School as they complete all the challenges and achieve an Arts Award Discover. On Tuesdays in August, visitors can join in with crafts as they create a mini boat or shark peg puppet to takeaway and on Thursday 31 August, make your own underwater world in a box. Be inspired by the seashore science collection!

Tickets to the Sandstories exhibition are £3.50 per adult and £1.70 per child (including Gift Aid) and will allow unlimited visits for the duration of the exhibition. Other activities may incur an additional charge.  For more information and to book tickets, please visit https://www.gosportmuseumandgallery.org.uk/event/sandstories.
