Lecture in the Loft Winter Spring Programme
Lecture in the loft with David Allen exploring the context and conception of the museum on its 40th anniversary.
The archaeological investigation of Danebury Ring Iron Age hillfort by Professor Barry Cunliffe, took place between 1969 and 1988. The quality and quantity of the evidence ensured that it is one of the most intensively studied Iron Age settlements in Britain. Along with the many books and articles written about the discoveries it was decided to create a dedicated museum to tell the story in a more tangible way. This talk looks at the background to the project and how it came to fruition, with all (well, nearly all) of the accompanying highs and lows.
Light refreshments included.
