Stories from Buckskin & South Ham is a local reminiscence project recording the stories and memories of local residents in the Buckskin & South Ham wards of Basingstoke. The project culminated in a pop-up exhibition at Milestones Museum and a book comprising written accounts, artworks and photographs spanning sixty years in Basingstoke.
In 2025, Hampshire Cultural Trust developed the Memory Lounge project at Milestones Museum, which included the development of a 1960s space and handling collection to support reminiscence-based workshops. This was generously supported with Pride in Place funding from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and charity SCLT.
Developed with funding from Sovereign Housing Network & Sovereign Hill Partnership, Stories from Buckskin and South Ham utilised the new space and resources such as everyday objects from the 1960’s, music, film and creative workshops to inspire conversation and hands-on activities.
Participants came together through reminiscence, art and drawing workshops as well as visits to Milestones Museum and other local venues. Conversations were documented as participants reflected on their lives in the local area and the many personal experiences, projects and activities that made the area home.
