The talk will examine the origins of women policing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, starting with the suffrage movements and World War One, before looking at the changes and developments across the counties leading up to the appointment of the first woman Chief Constable in 2016. 

Dr. Cliff Williams studied History and Anthropology at SOAS, obtained a Master of Philosophy degree in Criminology at the University of Cambridge, and a PhD from the University of Bradford. He served 25 years in the police service.
