Tricia Blakstad: Perspectives

Perspectives offers a glimpse into the influences, processes and materials of an extraordinary local printmaker and abstract spatial artist; Tricia Blakstad (1940-2022). Delivering on a promise to exhibit her work, this posthumous exhibition has been gathered to form a unique chance to see Blakstad’s work through blended eras of her practice. 

 

Diving into one of her sketchbooks, we see uncovered, her process, from sketch to plate, to final print. Follow a multitude of inspirations, from her surroundings at home, her background in architecture and set design, and her dedicated patronage of theatre and arts. Notable collections of work represented in the exhibition include the Blindfold series, Masks, The Washerwoman, and excerpts of what would later become the Studio Series.  

 

Tricia Blakstad studied Fine Art at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham after a degree in Architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture. She had successful careers in scenery design at the BBC, and computer programming for the London Borough of Hammersmith. Tricia's artistic career led her to become one of the Directors of the Beatrice Royal Art Gallery in Eastleigh, and she was a lifelong patron of the arts regularly visiting the Arc and supporting Chichester Theatre throughout her life alongside side her husband, Michael.
