Join Milestones Museum and Basing House in Basingstoke this Father’s Day and give dad a historic day to remember

Over the Father’s Day weekend (Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June), take Dad on a trip back in time at Milestones Living History Museum in Basingstoke and at the stunning grounds and ruins of Basing House.

Visitors to Milestones can wander the museum’s cobbled streets and immerse themselves in living history. The museum’s very own pub, The Baverstock Arms, will host pub games and a singalong, while the Milestones Pier will be open for children to challenge Dad or Grandad to some of the vintage arcade games. At 11am on both days find out how an Andover company made some of the most successful steam rollers in the world from start to finish in a special talk for Father’s Day weekend.

Fathers visiting over the weekend will be gifted a green ration card which can be exchanged for half a pint of locally brewed Longdog beer in The Baverstock Arms or an authentic ration of sweets in the museum’s sweet shop. There is a Father's Day special in the Rooftops Café, with steak or veggie pie, mash, peas and gravy served with half a pint or non-alcoholic alternative for £9.99.

At Basing House, on Sunday 19 June, The English Civil War Society will be staging a re-enactment in The Great Barn area of the historic grounds. There will be armour available to try on with plenty of photo opportunities as well as drills demonstrating troops marching in formation.

Visitors can walk through the stunning grounds and ruins, bring a picnic or grab an ice cream or coffee in the visitor centre and stroll through the Jacobean walled garden. A free app takes visitors around the site, providing information about the long and fascinating history of Basing House, once the largest private house in Tudor England.

Both sites are operated by Hampshire Cultural Trust. Pay once, visit all year tickets to both sites are available. Father’s Day events are included in admission price, additional activities may incur additional costs.
