Activities for the whole family to enjoy at Hampshire’s only working windmill

To celebrate British Science Week, 8-17 March 2019, Bursledon Windmill is hosting a family friendly science weekend on 16-17 March 2019.

There is a range of easy-to-do, hands-on activities for all the family to enjoy, such as experiment tables, a fun way for children to learn about volcanoes by mixing baking soda and vinegar. Children will also be to able make and take home (£1 cost per craft item) miniature windmills, paper planes and helicopters then learn how all three are engineered and work with the help of the wind!

Alongside the activities taking place, visitors will discover Hampshire’s only working windmill, gain a fascinating glimpse into the county’s milling history and have a chance to grind flour by hand and follow the process from grain to loaf. There are also the Chineham Barn and the Hiltingbury Granary, an 18th century farm building, to explore, walks through Windmill Wood to enjoy and brass rubbing to try out on the nature trail.

The activities will take place from 10.00-16.00 on both Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March. A family ticket (up to 5 people, max. 2 adults) is available from £13.50 (£14.80 including Gift Aid). Adult prices are £4.55 (£5 with Gift Aid) and a child/concession costs £3 (£4 with Gift Aid), under 5s are free.
