Due to its popularity, Gosport Museum and Art Gallery’s Open Art 2024 exhibition has been extended to Saturday 4 June 2024. The exhibition, which was due to close on 14 March, features over 70 original artworks by 50 talented local artists and creatives, all carefully selected for display by a specialist panel. The panel was made up of Gosport Museum and Art Gallery team members with art-centric backgrounds and an Exhibitions Manager from Hampshire Cultural Trust. When choosing the works for display from over 120 entries, the panel looked for creativity, appeal, technique and a variety of topics, media and styles.

The Judge’s Choice was awarded to Samantha Emmons for her showstopper piece Autumn of Change. This enchanting artwork erupts from the canvas. It captures the very essence of autumnal transformations and the intricacies of the organic world while also being infused with a magical otherworldly quality. The burst of bubbles and rhythmic patterns invite the viewer on a journey of discovery, where the visual language of abstraction becomes a celebration of movement and fluidity.

The Junior Judge’s Choice for entrants aged 12-18 was awarded to Maica Rodrigues for her outstanding animation The Travel Twins – King Canute. Maica takes storytelling to a whole new level in her work as she brings Playmobil characters to life through the art of stop-frame animation, weaving humour and charm into the historical narrative. The dedication to detail, from seamless movements to skilful editing, reflects the countless hours poured into this masterpiece.

Visitors can also cast their vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice award. Voting runs until the exhibition closes on Saturday 4 June.
