On Friday 13 August, the Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham, Councillor Mrs Pamela Bryant and Councillor Mrs Louise Clubley visited Westbury Manor Museum, joining in some family-friendly activities as part of Fareham’s summer of fun. The project, supported by Fareham Borough Council and the European Regional Development Fund*, delivers a series of family-friendly activities in Fareham throughout August.

With the Mayor in attendance, the museum, which is operated by charity Hampshire Cultural Trust hosted a family fun day with a magical twist! The event kicked off with a magic show from local magician, Nick Magic, followed by other spellbinding activities in the museum garden. Also, in attendance was Snazzy Roo Face Painting, painting an array of beautiful designs on the faces of very happy children, and Debutots Portsmouth, with storytelling and craft sessions throughout the day.

Emma Banks, Community Venue Manager for Westbury Manor Museum, commented: ‘we were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress along with so many families to this event. It is great to see local people enjoying themselves at Westbury after what has been a tough 18 months for all’.

With the summer holidays underway, Fareham Borough Council has even more exciting activities planned to keep children entertained. A giant sandpit has been installed in West Street and is open Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 4.30pm and Sundays 9.30am to 4.00pm. This free attraction is between the Crown Pub and Beal’s Estates Agents until Sunday 5 September – buckets and spades are recommended!

Alongside this, at Westbury Manor Museum it’s Family Fun Friday every Friday throughout August. On Friday 20 August, the museum hosts Wildlife Displays by Bryan Paterson in the museum garden, which will include snakes, lizards, spiders, scorpions, hissing cockroaches and giant snails. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to meet rabbits and guinea pigs and an interactive area with short talks and hands-on opportunities throughout the day.

The following week, on Friday 27 August, a fun-filled mini golf course arrives at the museum. The nine-hole course, by The Crazy Golf Company, is sustainably built and a world away from flat, standardised Mini Golf courses. Each hole is individually themed with a quirky style, from retro toy props like Trolls to recycled tyre loops. This event is sure to be fun for all the family!

These free, drop-in sessions take place in the museum’s garden, with the museum galleries, shop and café also open for visitors to enjoy.
