The Arc is proud to announce the return of this internationally recognised portrait competition.
The Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery has earned a reputation as one of the most important platforms for portrait painters. The highly competitive Award encourages artists, over the age of 18, to focus on and develop the theme of portraiture in their work. The exhibition is an incredible snapshot of contemporary global talent. With nearly 1,500 submissions, from across 63 countries, a total of 51 portraits have been selected for display in the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award 2026 exhibition. After celebrating in London, the exhibition will tour to Derby Museum & Art Gallery over winter, before travelling on to Winchester.
“This year’s works stand out for their originality, technical excellent and emotional resonance. They are a powerful reminder of the role portraiture can play in helping us better understand one another and the world around us.” Justin A’Agostino MH, Global CEO, Herbert Smith Freehills Karmer
We are excited to bring these impressive works here.
